COIL SPRING TESTS IN A SALT CHAMBER
The task of the coil springs is to ensure safety and comfort of driving. It is crucial, not only at the very beginning of vehicle use, but also after driving hundreds of thousands of kilometres with a fully loaded vehicle. That is why in testing coil springs our laboratories put big emphasis on resistance to corrosion, which adversely affects the springing characteristics. For this reason, in a laboratory we stimulate weather conditions in which the springs work on a daily basis: close to the road surface, in dust and mud, with high humidity and salty air.
We can stimulate them in a salt chamber, monitoring the temperature, pressure and salt content in a salt mist. For many hours the springs are “aged,” and after that we check their corrosion preventive coatings and check how the corrosion level impacts the springing capability and load transfer possibilities.
