PROFESSIONAL LABORATORY TESTS

Customers often choose Magnum products for their top-quality safety standards. For many years, Magnum activities have been supported by professional laboratories with regard to testing and quality control.

The laboratories carry out functional tests, including damping force and shock absorption tests, material tests and geometrical analyses. All this is done to ensure proper operation of suspension elements.

VERIFIED PRODUCTION BATCHES

Thanks to its long-standing experience, Magnum thoroughly verifies each product batch. Using professional systems and advanced specialized tools, we constantly monitor the quality level of our products.

We do this to have full control over our products.

CHECKING DAMPING FORCE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF SHOCK ABSORBERS

Before Magnum shock absorbers are delivered to customers, they undergo detailed implementation tests, from material tests of individual parts of shock absorbers to measurements of geometrical parameters with micrometric precision to final tests of the damping force after a long mileage. We care about the quality of our final products.

The quality of the weakest element decides about the durability of a shock absorber. That is why in the laboratory we focus on finding even the smallest discrepancies in the manufacturing process. For this reason, thanks to automated devices we can:

  • quickly and precisely test the type of materials used in production, by means of a spectroscope test of the chemical composition,
  • checking the precision of workmanship of elements,
  • performing characteristics test of the damping force for various speeds and loads,
  • perform statistic quality controls of the damping forces from current product deliveries.

COIL SPRING TESTS IN A SALT CHAMBER

The task of the coil springs is to ensure safety and comfort of driving. It is crucial, not only at the very beginning of vehicle use, but also after driving hundreds of thousands of kilometres with a fully loaded vehicle. That is why in testing coil springs our laboratories put big emphasis on resistance to corrosion, which adversely affects the springing characteristics. For this reason, in a laboratory we stimulate weather conditions in which the springs work on a daily basis: close to the road surface, in dust and mud, with high humidity and salty air.

We can stimulate them in a salt chamber, monitoring the temperature, pressure and salt content in a salt mist. For many hours the springs are “aged,” and after that we check their corrosion preventive coatings and check how the corrosion level impacts the springing capability and load transfer possibilities.

MANUFACTURING PROCESSES

As regards the quality of the products, be it shock absorbers, coil springs or any other elements, we focus on the capabilities of the manufacturing lines to keep critical features to the applicable standards. Irrespective of the place, time, season of the year, temperature or altitude, the production line should be stable, i.e., it cannot be vulnerable to external factors. This means that a consumer can be sure that all our products, irrespective of whether they came off the production line at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of the production process, have exactly the same functional characteristics.

To make it possible, our laboratory uses the MSA R&R technique, measuring techniques analysing the repeatability and reproducibility of a product. Any discrepancies may indicate worsening of the production capacity and result in tighter quality control of compromised product features, as well as implementation of preventive measures, even before any real errors appear. Safety of Magnum products is crucial for us, that is why we follow the better-prevent-than-cure philosophy.

THE CERTIFICATION

Magnum is subject to periodic certification, and the quality of our products is confirmed by a RAR-OCP certificate, confirming technical requirements being met, issued after a series of detailed and thorough tests.

MARKING PRODUCTION BATCHES

Each and every batch of our products has a special batch code on them. Why do we do that? Because striving for perfection we can ensure that we manufacture quality products.

PRODUCT ENDURANCE

Fatigue tester Heckert Eu40 is one of many devices we use to test the quality of Magnum products. It provides the possibility of checking the pressing force and tearing force. This universal device can generate a force ranging from 0 to 400 kN (kilo Newtons), i.e. up to 40 tons. It is used for testing forces that influence proper operation of suspension elements and spare parts, including Magnum coil springs.

At the laboratory we also implement testing methods using a durability testing machine for cyclical testing. Controlling the load properly, and also the number of repetitions and amplitude of tests, we can run fatigue tests on products. Analysing the results later on, we can see which elements or features of the products get worse the fastest, and as a result, implement the required corrections to increase their reliability.
